ANTÓN GARCÍA ABRIL
Born in Teruel (Spain) in 1933.
Prolific work composer. In the symphonic field he embraces the majority of Musical Forms; opera, orquestal works, cantatas, concerts (violin, piano, guitar...) chamber music.
The most oustanding being his various series og songs about our most prestigious spanish poets.
He has taken part in numerous Music Festivals, both National and International.
Since 1974 he has been Professor of Composition and Musical Forms at the Madrid Royal Music School.
In March 1982 he was elected a Member of San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts of Madrid, and in May 1995 of the San Luis Academy of Nobel and Fine Arts of Zaragoza and in November 1997 Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada.
He has obtained a great many of National and International Decorations and Awards:
- The Award for Siena International composition competition.
- The Award for Association of Writes and Artists.
- The Award for Services to Education and Culture.
- The Award for the IV Week of Religious Music of Cuenca.
- The National Award for Theatre.
- The National Award for Pedagogy and Musical Investigation.
- The Andrés Segovia Award.
- The title of "Freedom to the city" of his birthplace, Teruel.
- The Medal for Cultural Merit.
- Saint George Medal
- The 1993 National Award for Music
- The 1993 Guerrero Foundation Award for Spanish Music.
- The 1997 Sinphony Music Award granted by S.G.A.E. and A.I.E.
- The 1997 Gold Medal to the "Man of the Year" granted by popular vote in Zaragoza.
- The IX Nacional Prize "Cultura Viva", 1998
- The Fine arts gold Medal, 1998.
On the last 18th of October took place the world premier of his opera "Divinas Palabras", upon a work by Ramón María del Valle Inclán, in the Teatro Real of Madrid.
